Remember to Invest in Wedding Well-Being

Wedding planning is an emotionally charged time,  so it’s important to invest in your wedding well-being. Like leaves swirling around on a blustery autumn afternoon, emotions can be a whirlwind as the days and weeks count down to your special moment. What are you feeling? Excited! Nervous? Overwhelmed? Thankful. Ecstatic! You may be experiencing several of these, and even a barrage of thoughts and feelings.

As your wedding grows near, take time to do some things that will help you be ready to fully enjoy your day.

Here are some ideas:

1. Be kind to yourself and take time to rest. Especially the week of your wedding, having a day or two to take a nap or get in bed early will go a long way to keep your mind clear and emotions even. According to the National Sleep Foundation, 10-30 minute naps can help kick start an energy burst.

2. Go into your wedding from a position of strength. In addition to getting extra rest, do things that fill your emotional tank and refresh you mentally and physically. Take a walk for pleasure, create an art piece, read a good book, enjoy laughs with family members and friends, spend time alone just being. Be intentional to do something that calms you and helps you focus. It’s amazing what even 15-20 minutes can do to restore your soul.

3. Get proper nutrition. If you enjoy cooking, spend a little time in the kitchen and create some meals and snacks for the week. If not, choose healthy choices if you eat out. Consider hiring a cook for the week. We know a great one. Just ask and we’ll send you his link. A large part of wedding well-being is feeding your body the fuel it needs.

4. Get your heart pumping. Whether it means going to the gym, popping in an exercise DVD, or getting in a walk or run around your neighborhood, your body will thank you. Exercise increases endorphins, the “happy hormones”, so it also has a positive effect on your mind and emotions. Light stretching will also help your body and mind to relax and decompress. Just don’t overdo it. You don’t want to be sore on your wedding day!

5. Pray. If you are so inclined, prayer is a great way to let go, put things in perspective, and decrease stress. Consider reaching out to others you know who can be prayer support during this week.

6. Delegate. If you still have much on your plate, delegate all you can to friends and family. If you need more help, reach out to a wedding coordinator or professional and let them help. Your well-being is worth it.

7. Realize that your emotions, body, mind, and spirit are all interconnected. When you spend time taking care of one or more of these areas, it will benefit the others. Taking time to refresh and restore yourself goes a long way toward wedding well-being.

One more tip: date nights with your honey will also skyrocket your wedding well-being. Here are a few date night ideas while planning a wedding.
