Do You Know Your Bridal Look?

“Your wedding gown! How beautiful!” “You look gorgeous! Your hair and makeup are perfect for your dress,” are exclamations brides want to hear on their wedding day. The process of choosing the wedding day look can be filled with joyful moments or, for some brides-to-be, frustrating because they don’t know what they want. Even when the dream dress is purchased, beautiful hairstyle and makeup planned, and wedding party attire chosen in your favorite color, sometimes the overall wedding doesn’t look as polished as desired when the photos are seen.

There are many decisions to make in a wedding journey-the choice of venue, flowers, decor, wedding party attire, groom’s attire, wedding dress, etc. When it’s all put together, the look can be cohesive and beautiful with everything seeming to fit together perfectly or it may reflect an element or two that didn’t quite blend with the rest of the choices. So, where do you start to lay the foundation for your desired wedding look?

The first basic decision to make for your wedding is the level of formality. This is where you determine the mood, the atmosphere, the feel for your wedding. Do you want it to be informal, semi-formal, or formal? Within those categories, what are the details of what you want? Are you and your groom the type who like to get dressed up and want to shine among family, friends, and colleagues dressed to-to-the-nines in an elegant, regal setting? Do you prefer a small, intimate celebration with only a few family and friends wearing casual clothing at a family home or yard? Do you want an event with a warm, inviting feel that reflects your love for each other surrounded by many friends and family in dressy, casual attire? Do you want a refreshing, delightful ambiance filled with a sense of anticipation and celebration with people in dresses and suits? Do you prefer the natural look, do you want to have a gorgeous up-do and fabulous over-the-top makeup, or are you somewhere in between? These decisions will help you form the foundation of your day so your choices will come together for a beautiful wedding day look.

Writing down descriptions of how you want your wedding to look and feel will help you determine how formal or informal you want your day to be. Look on Pinterest or in magazines to get ideas about what you like and don’t like. Put together a wedding board with your ideas to see if they work together. Do this in a way that you can add or remove items. Attend workshops and events like the Brides’ and Grooms’ Night Out at Southern Station where you can see bridal makeovers demonstrated and create a blueprint for your own wedding day. Take time to invest in you and your groom and know what you really want for your special day.

It’s your occasion. Make it Always Yours!

Happy planning!
