Planning a Christmas Proposal?

In this blog post, we’re addressing the men who have a certain important question to ask. That’s right, we’re talking about a proposal! The holidays are filled with the hustle and bustle of trimming the tree, finding and wrapping presents, Christmas parties, driving around to look at the beautiful decorations, and reflecting on the reason we celebrate Christmas. Because this is a favorite and joyful season, many men feel it’s the perfect time to pop the question and seal it with a ring. In fact, about 40% of all engagements happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. So, if that’s you, here are some tips for making your proposal memorable.

Timing is everything.

Choose a time to make sure you both can focus on each other and the moment. If you are planning on proposing on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Years, or Valentine’s Day, consider what time and where would be best amidst the celebrations. You are going to have a lot to say to each other afterwards, and might even want to start talking wedding dates, so give yourselves ample time.

Environment is crucial in creating the right atmosphere.

Here’s where you need to pay close attention. Determining the right backdrop is very important to creating a romantic atmosphere. For instance, some women dream of a proposal with friends and family nearby to celebrate. Some would feel so honored to receive a proposal at a special event with lots of people. Others can’t even stand the thought of such a private moment being intruded on by other people. Check with your gal’s family and friends to find out what will be most special to her. You also need to consider what fits the tone of your relationship. Decide if you want your proposal to be very private between the two of you, followed by an engagement party, or be part of your holiday festivities or gift giving time.

Also, think closely about the location. Would it be better to pop the question inside or outside? Here are ideas you could consider:

~The place you met

~Following a favorite activity such as hiking, or a riverboat cruise

~A place of significance to you both

~An outdoor area filled with natural beauty

~During a special event

When allowed by the venue, you can bring in strings of lights or candles, flowers, and other items to further create a romantic backdrop. Live or piped in music can add to the ambiance. If you have musical talent, consider serenading her with a love song.

Delivery.

Your engagement is a unique moment tailored for you as a couple. Even if you find yourself breaking out in a cold sweat as you try to figure out what to say, simply let your love and value for her and your desire to commit to doing life together speak for itself. Some couples love grand gestures, while to others, a quiet, simple proposal is incredibly romantic. What type of couple are you?

Kate likes to think the essence of romance is thoughtfulness. It’s being aware of what’s important to the one you love and acting in a way to show you care. Knowing what’s important to someone comes from truly knowing that person.
